The Twitter business idea pitch, also known as a “biztweet,” “twitpitch” or “twitch,” has arrived. Yes, that means entrepreneurs have 140 characters, tops, to explain their start-up ideas — making the classic elevator pitch, which can take a couple of minutes (sometimes in an actual elevator, as with Wake Forest University’s annual event), feel downright dilatory.

It took business plan competition organizers some time to embrace the brevity-requiring, social media platform of Twitter in the first place. Twitter made its debut in 2006, but it was only this year that most of the institutions aiming to inspire, educate and support entrepreneurs with business competitions got on it officially.
